Planning the Future of the Asia-Pacific Spa Industry
Following its inaugural Strategic Planning Forum in Bali in March this year, APSWC established five industry task forces, to address the most pressing needs and challenges: People, Professionalisation, Products, Profit and Planet.
The time is nearing to review the progress of those task forces, and determine how the outcomes can be developed and implemented in each of our countries and companies. We will also be reporting on APSWC activities, and planning ‘next steps’, including task force scope and priorities for the year to come.
Please note that this forum is by invitation only. Due to the highly interactive nature of the event, we need to limit attendance to a level that permits participation by all. Please see the following information for meeting details and preliminary agenda. Attendance will be capped at 75 persons.
| Five Pillars Task Force |
Following the Strategic Planning Forum held in Bali in March 2007, the APSWC established five industry task forces to pursue areas of priority for the industry:
Professionalisation - 'Professionalisation' is the process of becoming more professional. Priority for this Task Force is Accreditation.
People - This Task Force aims to structure the industry, providing guidance to both employers and employees regarding skill sets and minimum working conditions. It also includes initiatives to help attract and retain good staff.
Product & Equipment - This Task Force aims to demystify products & equipment, improving the quality of information to help operators to make the best choice for their businesses and customers.
Profit - This Task Force aims to improve industry information for owners, operators and investors; establishing benchmarks & KPIs.
Planet - Review different standards available (e.g.: ISO14000, Green Globe 21, and best practices in other industries - liaise with WWF, Green Peace, etc.) and develop a 'toolkit' of standards and guidelines to bring the spa industry into line with these international best practices, with a pathway to accreditation if desired.
To participate in a Five Pillars Task Force, simply complete the contact form with your name and check mark your desired Task Force, and then you can determine the extent of your role once the detailed programme for that Task Force is prepared.
If you had signed up for a task force at the Bali Planning Forum, please complete the contact form to confirm your commitment to the task force. We will ensure that all work is broken down into small chunks with realistic time frames. Whether you work on all projects within a Task Force, or just one tiny part, is your decision.
Each task force will have a dedicated leader who will coordinate the allocation of tasks and prepare recommendations for presentation to the Council. Please mention in your response if you would like to volunteer to lead a Task Force, or one of its activities. To participate in a Task Force, please complete the following APSWC Task Force Contact Form or email Samantha Foster at s.foster@spawellnesscouncil.com
